Waterloo 1815 (James Wilkie, Gunner Royal Foot Artillery) fitted with replacement clip and ring suspension, last two letters of rank very faint, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine £1200-1400

James Wilkie was born in the Parish of Evandale, Lanarkshire, circa 1789. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery at Glasgow on 20 February 1808, aged 19 years, for a period of limited service. He served in the Waterloo campaign of 1815 in Captain Thomas Hutchesson’s Company of Foot Artillery, receiving the medal and two year’s extra service towards pension. He was discharged at Woolwich on 29 February 1820, ‘having served the period for which he enlisted and being finally pensioned by the Honourable Board of Ordnance at Five Pence per day.’ Sold with copied discharge papers.
