5th Kent Artillery Volunteers Presentation Sword the 83 cm unfullered bright blade by Hobson & Sons St. Martins Lane London, the blade fully etched on one side with the Royal Arms over a scroll ‘Pro Aris Et Focis’ and inscription ‘Present To Malcolm B. de B. Barnet On His Attaining The Rank Of Major by Lieut. Coll. Brandren The Officers Non Commissioned Officers And Gunners Of The 5th Kent Artillery Volunteers, As A Token Of Their High Appreciation Of His Services And Of Their Esteem & Respect For Him. June 1874’, further scrolling panelwork, the reverse with scrolling panels an oval ‘Invicta’ enclosing the White Horse of Kent, crowned VR cypher ‘Kent 5th Artillery’ set among thunder bolts, Barnet’s family crest and motto ‘Finis Cordnat Opus’ plus his initials, the pierced hand guard is in unmarked silver and incorporates the unit title, the Barnet family crest, VR cypher, crossed cannon barrels and floral scrolling, the fish skin grip bound with silver wire, the pommel and back strap with relief decoration including a depiction of a blue cloth helmet. The nickel plated scabbard etched with scrolling panels, the Barnet family crest and motto, very fine overall condition £600-800
