Three: Lieutenant-Colonel J. C. Strachan, Royal Garrison Artillery

John Cockburn Strachan was born in Nottingham in 1886 and was educated at Dunbar School and the University of Edinburgh where he gained an M.A. in 1907. Prior to enlistment he was employed as a Schoolmaster. He enlisted into the R.G.A. as a Gunner in July 1917. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the R.G.A. on 15 August 1918. Served in France/Flanders, 19 October 1918 until the end of the war. Appointed Major and O.C. of the 227th (Haddington) Battery (Howitzers), 57th (Lowland) Medium Brigade, R.A. (T.A.) at High Street, Dunbar from 17 June 1922-1 April 1932. Appointed Lieutenant-Colonel and O.C. of the 57th (Lowland) Medium Brigade, R.A. (T.A.) at Wemys Place, Edinburgh, on 1 April 1932. Awarded the Jubilee Medal in 1935 in this capacity. Served in the Reserve of Officers, April 1936-April 1941. In his civil life, he became the Headmaster of Tranent Public School. He died at Tranent, East Lothian on 30 November 1957. With copied research.
