Three: Lieutenant J. E. Howe, 2nd Canadian Infantry and East Ontario Regiment, wounded at the Ypres Salient, 4 June 1916

James Edward Howe was born in Welsford, Queen’s County, New Brunswick on 21 June 1891. A Farmer by occupation, he attested for the 55th Battalion (New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island Battalion) on 12 May 1915. He arrived in England on 29 August 1915 and was transferred to the 14th Canadian Infantry. He was posted to France on 6 September and joined the 2nd Canadian Infantry on 31 December 1915. Whilst serving with the 2nd Canadian Infantry he was wounded in action (shrapnel wound right leg) at the Ypres Salient on 4 June 1916. Howe was invalided to England but was able to return to his unit in France in September. On 5 December 1918 he was promoted Temporary Lieutenant in the Eastern Ontario Regiment. Discharged on 3 December 1919. With a quantity of copied service papers, and war diary extracts.
