A Great War O.B.E. group of four awarded to Captain J. Macilvenna, Royal Army Veterinary Corps

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 1st type breast badge, silver-gilt, hallmarks for 1919; British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (Capt.); Special Constabulary Long Service, G.V.R., 2nd issue (John G. McIlvenna) last three mounted as worn, note slight variation in name and initials, good very fine (4) £200-250

John Macilvenna was a practising Solicitor. He joined the Army as a Lieutenant in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps in November 1915 and was promoted to Captain in November 1916 and Major (Deputy Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, General Headquarters, Egypt Expeditionary Force) in January 1919. Macilvenna served in Egypt, Palestine and Syria. For his war services he was twice mentioned in despatches and awarded the O.B.E. With copied research.
