Waterloo 1815 (Archibald White, 1st Batt. 71st Reg. Foot) fitted with replacement steel clip and ring suspension, edge bruising, some contact marks, about very fine £1600-2000

Archibald White, a Weaver from Barony, Glasgow, enlisted into the 71st Regiment in January 187, aged 15 years. He served over 23 years with the Colours, including six years in the Peninsula and six years in Newfoundland. With the 71st Regiment he served at Roleia, Vimiera, Fuentes d’Onor, Vittoria and the Pyrenees and was awarded the Military General Service Medal with those clasps (his papers add ‘Talavera’). In the Waterloo Campaign he served in Captain James Henderson’s Company. Promoted Corporal in November 1816, he was discharged on 5 March 1817. White re-enlisted into the 95th Regiment in December 1823 and transferred to the 88th Regiment in July 1829, being finally discharged as a Private in October 1838, having several times been promoted to and reduced from Corporal.
