John Pegg was born in Hinckley in 1937 and, on being called up for national service, joined the Royal Leicestershire Regiment. Posted to ‘A’ Company of the 1st Battalion, he was killed in a road accident at Lysi, Cyprus on 10 April 1957, when the truck in which he was a passenger was hit by a French army vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road. The French driver was found to be over the drink-drive limit. Pegg was buried in Wayne’s Keep Military Cemetery, Nicosia, one of 17 men from his regiment to die in the course of the Cyprus Emergency; sold with further details and a copied photograph.
