Naval General Service 1915-62, 1 clasp, Persian Gulf 1909-1914 (177086 C. Catenho, Off. Ck. 2Cl., H.M.S. Alert) slight contact marks, good very fine £100-140

Cassiano Catenho was born in Goa, India in April 1866. A Servant and Cook by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy in October 1893 as a Domestic 3rd Class. Was rated as an Officer’s Cook 3rd Class in October 1907 and Officer’s Cook 2nd Class in December 1909. Served on H.M.S. Prosperine, December 1906-May 1909; H.M.S. Philomel, December 1909-September 1910, and H.M.S. Alert, November 1911-August 1914. Attained the rank of Officer’s Cook 1st Class in April 1915 when on H.M.S. Fox. Reverted to Officer’s Cook 2nd Class in October 1917. Discharged in March 1919 but re-enlisted in July 1925, again as an Officer’s Cook 2nd Class, serving until November 1926, latterly on H.M.S. Emerald. Additionally entitled to the Africa General Service with clasp for Somaliland 1908-10 and the 1914-15 Star trio of medals. With copied service papers.
