Frederick Day was born in Bermondsey, London. A Carman by occupation, he attested for service in the Royal Artillery at London on 17 November 1894, aged 18 years, 1 month. He served in South Africa with the 67th Battery R.F.A., May 1897-October 1902, seeing service at the defence of Ladysmith. Was transferred to the Army Reserve in November 1902 and discharged on 16 November 1906. Additionally awarded the King’s medal with two clasps. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
