Three: Sergeant R. W. Bool, Royal Air Force

British War and Victory Medals (8658 Sgt. R. W. Bool, R.A.F.); Royal Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R. (8658 Serjt. Clerk R. W. Bool, R.A.F.), together with related Royal Life Saving Society Medal, bronze, named and dated 1932, and a gold award for use as a watch fob, the reverse engraved, ‘R. W. Bool, 100 Yds. Breast Stroke Champn. 1922’, good very fine (5) £300-350

Ronald W. Bool, who was from Pimlico in London and joined the Royal Flying Corps as a Clerk in September 1915, was advanced to Sergeant Clerk in March 1918 and awarded the M.S.M. (London Gazette 1 January 1919, refers).

Sold with a quantity of original documentation, including letter of notification for the award of his M.S.M, a typed roll of members of the 16th Balloon Company, R.A.F., and what appears to be the remnants of a hastily written field message from 1917, in which appears mention of balloons and Bourlon Wood, together with several wartime letters addressed to Bool, some of them at the Military Hospital, Richmond - but the majority of the accompanying paperwork relates to earlier family members and matters, yet does include one or two letters of reference in connection with the recipient’s subsequent career as Clerk to the General Inspector, Ministry of Health, in the 1930s; together with a school attendance medal, and three Edward VII white metal commemorative medals.
