Eight: Squadron Sergeant-Major F. Learoyd, South African Mounted Rifles, late Imperial Yeomanry and Natal Police

Yeo.) last two clasps loose on ribbon; Natal 1906, 1 clasp, 1906 (Tpr., Natal Police); 1914-15 Star (Cpl., 2nd S.A.M.R.); British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (S.S.M., 2nd S.A.M.R.); War and Africa Service Medals (86262 F. Learoyd); Permanent Forces of the Empire L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (No.815 Sq. Sgt. Maj., S.A.M.R.) mounted for display, some with contact marks, nearly very fine and better (8) £350-450

Frederick Learoyd was born near Wakefield, Yorkshire on 11 August 1882. A Miner by occupation he enlisted into the Imperial Yeomanry and served with the 9th Company, 3rd Battalion Imperial Yeomanry (Yorkshire Hussars in the Boer War. He enlisted into the Natal Police on 11 July 1902. Awarded the Long Service medal per Government Notice 1780 of 23 October 1914. During 1914-15 he served against the rebellion and in German Southwest Africa with the 6th Mounted Brigade. Promoted to Corporal in May 1914; Sergeant in February 1915 and Squadron Sergeant-Major in April 1915. Attested for the Union Defence Force in June 1940. As a Warrant Officer Class 1 in the General Service Corps he was discharged in November 1944 having passed the age limit.
