Three: Major R. Cooper, 7th Dragoon Guards

Robert Cooper, who was born in May 1862, was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 7th Dragoon Guards in August 1886 and was advanced to Captain in April 1895. In the new year of 1898 he was sent to the Ugandan Protectorate and was attached, in common with his brother officer Lieutenant Gage, also of the 7th Dragoon Guards, to the Uganda Rifles. A Major by the outbreak of hostilities in South Africa, he served on the staff and was later a Special Services Officer, Rhodesian Field Force, and a Staff Officer in Charge of South Western District, employed with remounts. He retired in July 1903.
