Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol (Priv. John Walsh, 88th Reg.) engraved naming, minor edge bruising, very fine £300-350

John Walsh was born in Kilmore, Ballina, Co. Mayo. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the 88th Regiment at Ballina on 19 January 1838, aged 18 years. Served overseas in Malta for 6 years 1 month; in the West Indies for 3 years, 4 months and North America for 1 year, 1 month. Serving in the Crimea, he was wounded in the right leg at Inkermann. Discharged as being unfit for service on 28 May 1856. During the course of his military career he was nine times imprisoned and his character at discharge was stated to be ‘Bad’. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
