Historical Record of the 87th Regiment, Richard Canon, c. 1836, the personal copy of Quarter-Master William O’Grady of that regiment, bearing his signature on the fly leaf and with his additional pencilled marginal notes, good condition

Quarter-Master William O’Grady was the first man to join the 87th Regiment when it was formed in 1793. He served in the Flanders campaign in 1794, being wounded and taken prisoner; served with the Forlorn Hope at the storming and capture of Monte Video, and was present at the taking of Buenos Ayres in 1807, wher he captured 70 mounted Spaniards and was awarderd a unique regimental gold medal for his conspicuous bravery; and finally in the Peninsula and was wounded during the defence of Tarifa. His 6-clasp M.G.S. medal was sold by Spink in November 2013 (£8000).
