Peru, Signature of José de San Martín, on an award document for the Order of the Sun, dated 12 January 1822, awarded to Don Andreas Reyes (?), document, 315 x 215mm., bearing the Peruvian emblem, minor staining, minor damage, fairly good condition £100-140

José de San Martín (25 February 1778-17 August 1850), together with Simón Bolívar, played a key roll in the Latin American struggle for Independence from Spain. Revered as a National Hero in several South American countries. Amongst the positions held, he was the First Protector of Peru, 28 July 1821-20 September 1822; General-in-Chief of the Chilian Army, 14 February 1817-20 July 1820 and General-in-Chief of the Army of the Andes, 12 January 1817-14 February 1817.
