Lloyd’s Medal for Saving Life at Sea, 1st large type bronze medallion, 73mm. (Peter Bruce “Eunity R. Dyer” 1st March 1896) contained in (scuffed) case of issue, extremely fine £260-300

‘The committee of Lloyd’s have decided to bestow the bronze medal of the Society of Lloyd’s upon Chief Officer Frank Albert Crossland and Able Seamen David Grant, Peter Bruce, and George Mitchell, of the British steamship Stag, as an acknowledgement of their extraordinary exertions in contributing to the saving of life on the occasion of the loss of the United States schooner, Eunity R. Dyer, on March 1 last. The Eunity R. Dyer was disabled in a gale, and, as heavy seas were running at the time, the crew were rescued at great risk by the above seamen in a boat from the steamship Stag, the American vessel being abandoned in a sinking condition.’ (Ref. The Times, 25 August 1896).

The above seamen, of the S.S.
Stag, of South Shields, were additionally awarded the U.S.A. Presidential Lifesaving Medal in gold for their bravery and exertions in the rescue of the crew of the Eunity R. Dyer.

With a folder containing copied research. The Medal to David Grant was sold in Fevyer Collection, D.N.W. 25 September 2008.
