Thomas Wallis was born in Highgate, London. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Middlesex Regiment at London on 13 July 1901, aged 20 years, 9 months. With the 3rd Battalion Middlesex Regiment he served on St. Helena guarding Boer prisoners-of-war, March 1900-March 1902; then served with the regiment in Cape Colony, September 1902. His ‘Small Book’ then records service in Transvaal, January 1904; Hong Kong, Tientsin and North China, October-November 1906; Singapore, November 1908; then service in India. Believed to have re-enlisted into the 24th Battalion Middlesex Regiment on 7 June 1915 and was discharged due to sickness on 3 May 1916.

With recipient’s original ‘Small Book’ and copied census details and Great War m.i.c.
