Albert West was born in Battersea, London. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 4th Battalion East Surrey Regiment Militia, he attested for the East Surrey Regiment at Kingston-on-Thames on 3 February 1898, aged 18 years, 1 month. Served in South Africa, January 1900-January 1903 and in India, January 1903-November 1905. On Mounted Infantry duties from September 1903. Discharged having completed his service in February 1910. With copied service papers and roll extract.
