Pair: Private J. Younger, 7th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, killed in action 23 March 1918

1914-15 Star (2473 Pte., Sea. Highrs.); British War Medal 1914-20 (5309 Pte., Seaforth); Memorial Plaque (James Younger) extremely fine (3) £100-140

With two British Red Cross & Order of St. John letters dated 29 August 1918 concerning Pte. James Younger, 267666 Seaforths, addressed to Miss C. Murray, Caithness and Miss E. M. Younger, Edinburgh:

‘Our search for your missing cousin has now resulted in a very sad report from a man claiming to be an eye-witness of his death. Pte. A. Payne. 24101, 8th (late 7th) Seaforths, in hospital abroad, tells us that he saw Younger killed in the dug-out at Meteren on March 23rd between 3 and 4 a.m. The Germans were attacking, and put up a barrage. Pte. McKay, C Coy, 7th Seaforths, B.E.F. France, was standing close to him and could no doubt, give further evidence. ...’

With B.R.C. & O.St.J. card acknowledging receipt of a letter making enquiries if Younger was a prisoner-of-war; another card from the Territorial Force addressed to Mr John Younger of Castletown and a newspaper cutting re Younger’s death. Plaque in card envelope; medals with named lids of card boxes of issue.

With two copied m.i.c. bearing Younger’s service numbers: ‘2473’, ‘5309’ and ‘267666’.
