Henry Byrne Chatteris was born on 7 February 1870, and was commissioned into the Royal Artillery as a 2nd Lieutenant on 15 February 1889. He was serving in Egypt from March 1890 until 16 May 1891, when he was appointed to the Reserve. After serving in West Africa for some years he was Assistant Consular Officer at Brass in 1895. He took part in the Brass River expedition in February of that year but contracted malarial fever during the campaign and died at Brass on 8 March 1895. Sold with copies of the medal roll and Letters of Administration of his personal estate.
