Army of India 1799-1826, 3 clasps, Asseerghur, Argaum, Gawilghur (Lieut. H. Raynsford, 3rd Lt. Cavy.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, attractively toned with original frosted finish, extremely fine and rare £8000-10000

38 medals issued with this combination of clasps, including 5 to officers in the HEIC, the remainder to the 94th Foot. Approximately 52 clasps for Asseerghur, 122 clasps for Argaum, and 113 clasps for Gawilghur were issued to European recipients.

Hanbury Rainsford was born in London on 22 September 1782. He was a cavalry Cadet on the Madras Establishment in 1800, and was commissioned Lieutenant in the 3rd Cavalry on 11 August 1801; Captain, 20 May 1813; Major, 1 September 1818; Lieutenant-Colonel, 1 May 1824; Brevet Colonel, 5 June 1829; retired from 11 September 1834, in England; Major-General, 28 November 1854.

Major-General Raynsford died on 28 April 1868, aged 85, at Henlow Grange, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.
