Transvaal Chamber of Mines Medal for Bravery, 45mm., bronze, reverse inscribed, ‘Awarded by the Transvaal Chamber of Mines to George Henry Delaney in recognition of his courage during rescue operations at the Geldenhuis Deep Mine on 31st October, 1942’, with brooch bar suspension, extremely fine, rare £250-300

Instituted by the Transvaal Chamber of Mines in 1915, it was the Chamber’s highest award for bravery. Prior to 1940 only awarded to Europeans, with non-Europeans being instead awarded a silver watch. From late-1940 onwards the medal was open to men of all races. Less than 100 awarded.
