Copied research with the medal to Paddock indicates he was a prisoner-of-war.

Private George Sheppard, Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, died on 8 February 1918, of wounds suffered in France. Aged 22 years at the time of his death, he was the son of Charles and Eliza Sheppard, of Ablington, Figheldean, Salisbury. He was buried in the Figheldean (St. Michael) Churchyard. With modern photographs of his headstone and memorial.
