James Snook was born and lived in Tisbury, Wiltshire. Employed as a Stone Cutter, he attested for the Wiltshire Militia on 15 November 1893, aged 18 years, 7 months. With the 3rd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment he served on St. Helena guarding Boer prisoners-of-war, 20 June 1901-April 1902. With copied service papers.
