AUSTRALIA, Transportation tokens (3), viz. George III, Pennies (2), both 1797, both stipple-engraved, one with obv. engraved (George Youngs Nichols Forget Me Not, Norwich), rev. large crown (Love Liberty and Friendship), the other with obv. planed flat and engraved (Mary Ashford 23 Keep this till you see me, H.A., 1826); a thin copper Penny-sized flan with grained edge, also stipple-engraved, obv. (Robert Adlam Aged 12, 7 Years 1848), rev. (Sarah Adlam Aged 7 Y 1849) [3]. First about fine and holed as a keepsake, others very fine, all worthy of further research £300-500

George Youngs was convicted at Suffolk Quarter Sessions in 1837 and was transported for life on the Elphinstone on 27 May 1837, arriving in Australia on 27 January 1838. Robert Adlam was sentenced to seven years transportation at Norwich Quarter Sessions and was transported on the Rodney on 19 August 1850, when he was presumably aged 14, arriving in Australia on 19 April 1851. There are no records of an H. Ashford (if indeed that was his name) being transported in 1826 or in any subsequent year
