A post-war B.E.M. and Second War D.S.M. group of eight awarded to Chief Electrician H. J. Justice, Royal Navy, for the sinking of the U-187 in January 1943

Victory) the last seven mounted as worn, some contact marks, otherwise very fine and better (8) £800-1000

D.S.M. London Gazette 18 May 1943: ‘For successful action against enemy submarines while serving in H.M.S. Vimy’.

The recommendation states: “Was in charge of Depth Charge party during the sinking of U-187 on 4th February 1943, and also in subsequent attacks when submarines attacked SC 118. He was responsible that no patterns failed.”

The Captain of the Vimy was Lieutenant-Commander R. B. Stannard, V.C., the R.N.R. hero of the Norway campaign in 1940, who was awarded the D.S.O. for his part in this action.

B.E.M. London Gazette 1 June 1953: ‘On the occasion of Her Majesty’s Coronation.’ Chief Electrician, H.M.S. Dolphin, Submarine Base and School. Sold with further research including a recommendation for his B.E.M.
