Air Force Cross
, G.V.R. British War and Victory Medals (Capt., R.A.F.) nearly extremely fine (3) £600-800

A.F.C. London Gazette 1 January 1919.

Captain Harry Slingsby had prior experience of both building and flying aircraft before joining the air force. He was commissioned on 3 January 1916 as a Second Lieutenant (Pilot) in the Royal Flying Corps. Initially assigned to No. 41 Squadron in England, he transferred to No. 28 Squadron for a time flying on home defence duties. Slingsby moved to No. 56 Squadron, based in France on 20 October 1917, with whom he flew on a number of operational flights, in most of which Major Jim McCudden also participated. On 24 February 1918 he was again put on home defence duties, this time with No. 141 Squadron operating from Biggin Hill. Research sold with the lot suggests that Slingsby was responsible fo wrecking Major McCudden’s personal SE5, which he crashed into a house on landing. McCudden was apparently very unhappy about this. Sold with a quantity of copied research material, including a copied photograph of recipient in uniform.

The Imperial War Museum have Capt Slingsby’s Air Force Cross and Flying Log Book, donated by a family member, but not his British War and Victory Medals.
