M.C. London Gazette 23 April 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When an ammunition pit and camouflage over a gun were on fire, he went out and pulled the camouflage off the gun, and shovelled wet mud onto the burning ammunition. He did not leave until it was isolated from the other ammunition, thereby preventing much destruction.’
