Pair: Captain J. J. Dansey, Ross’s Camel Corps
Sutlej 1845-46, for Moodkee 1845, 2 clasps, Ferozeshuhur, Sobraon (Ensign, 16th Regt. N.I.); Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Captn., Ross. Camel Corps) nearly extremely fine, the second very rare (2) £800-1000
Ross’s Camel Corps was raised and commanded by Major John Ross, 3rd Rifle Brigade, and took part at the capture of Calpee and subsequent campaign in Central India. Many of the men serving in this Camel Corps were also from the Rifle Brigade, and their medals were so named. Medals actually named to Ross’s Camel Corps are extremely rare. Asplin’s Indian Mutiny Medal Roll lists Captain J. J. Dansey as the only recipient of a no clasp medal to this unit. Dansey retired as a Major-General in 1879.
