Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Relief of Mafeking, Orange Free State (Capt. N. McN. Gray, R.F.A.) minor edge bruise, otherwise extremely fine £400-500

Norman McNeill Gray was born in March 1874, and joined the Royal Field Artillery in March 1892. He was attached to M Battery, Royal Horse Artillery, in South Africa, as part of Colonel Mahon’s force sent to the relief of Mafeking, where he was severely wounded on 16 May 1900. He served as Battery Major of the 45th Battery R.F.A. in France, where he was accidentally injured on 24 August 1914. He died of his injuries on 9 February 1916, in hospital at Banchory, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Sold with copy service records, including pages from his correspondence file.
