A Burma Campaign M.M. group of seven awarded to Corporal L. D. Jenkins, 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, killed in action in Italy in September 1944

Military Medal, G.VI.R. (7888942 Tpr., R. Tank R.); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Burma Star; Italy Star; Defence & War Medals, good very fine (7) £450-550

M.M. London Gazette 9 March 1943.

“In Libya, and in the whole of the last campaign in Burma, Tpr Jenkins as driver of the Troop Commander’s tank has shown exceptional quickness and initiative. On many occasions by his own swift action he has saved his tank from being knocked out. On one occasion he ran over three anti-tank guns, and on another continued to drive with great skill and determination when his tank had received a direct hit immediately above the vizor from a field gun. At all times, by his cheerfulness and devotion to duty, he has set the finest example over a very long period of active service.”

Trooper Lawrence David Jenkins was killed in action at San Savino, Italy, on 15 September 1944, and is buried in Ancona War Cemetery. One of only two M.Ms to the 2nd R.T.R. for Burma, the only battalion to serve in that theatre.
