Akbar Ali enlisted in No. 4 (Hazara) Mountain Battery, Punjab Field Force, in March 1869, and rose to be Subadar-Major of the four P.F.F. batteries. On retirement in November 1903, he was appointed Honorary Captain and awarded the Order of British India, 1st Class.
IGS 1895 is named to recipient as Jemadar, not Gunner
