Charles Noble joined Q Battery in November 1899, after completeing his Wheeler’s course at Woolwich and was promoted to Bombardier-Wheeler at the same time. The battery arrived in South Africa in December 1899, and won four Victoria Crosses attempting to save the battery’s guns after an ambush at Sanna’s Post on 31 March 1900. It was later awarded the Honour Title “Sanna’s Post”.
