John Thomas Rixon served with 66 Battery at Colenso when, on 15 December 1899, attempts were made to save the battery’s guns under very heavy fire. A total of seven Victoria Crosses and 19 D.C.M.s were won at this battle, and the 66th Battery was later awarded the Honour Title “Colenso”.
