D.C.M. London Gazette 30 October 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid. When his party got too close to the artillery barrage, he rallied them and led them on to the objective, where a machine-gun was destroyed and the crew taken prisoner, after a stout resistance. When the raiding party had returned, he went out to look for wounded and succeeded in bringing back a wounded man.’
