Colonel St George Edward William Burton served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with the 1st Battalion of the Black Watch, took part with the River Column under Major General Earle, and was present in the engagement at Kirbekan (Medal with two clasps and Khedive’s Star). He served in the South African war in 1902, and took part in the operations in the Orange River Colony and in the Transvaal with Rimington’s Column (Queen’s Medal with five clasps).
