William Hogg was born in the Parish of Hawick, Roxburgh, and enlisted at Edinburgh on 6 August 1881, aged 19. He served in Egypt in 1882, in the Eastern Soudan 1884, in the Nile Expedition 1884-85, and received the Egypt Medal with five clasps for Tel-El-Kebir, Suakin 1884, El-Teb, The Nile 1884-85, and Kirbekan, and the Bronze Star. Sold with copy service papers.
