D.S.O. London Gazette 3 June 1919: ‘For distinguished service in connection with military operations in France and Flanders. Major (Temporary Lieut.-Colonel A. B. Reynolds, 12th Lancers, Commanding 1/1st Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry.’

Alan Boyd Reynolds was born on 12 March 1879, son of Sir Alfred Reynolds and was educated at Winmchester, and New Coillege, Oxford. He joined the 12th Lancers as 2nd Lieutenant on 23 May 1900, and served in South Africa, including operations in Cape Colony, October 1901 to 31 May 1902 (despatches, Queen’s Medal with 3 clasps). Promoted to Lieutenant in September 1902, Captain in August 1908, and Major in December 1914. Commandant of the South African Signalling School, 1911, and afterwards Adjutant, King Edwards Horse Special Reserve Regiment. He served in France and Belgium from 1 June 1915 to 7 July 1916, and from 21 February 1917 to 11 November 1918. He was in command of the 12th Lancers, 3rd-14th March 1916; 1/1st Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry (T.F.), 21st-25th February 1917; and Corps Cavalry Regiment from 26th February 1917 (despatches twice, D.S.O.). He retired in 1928, and died on 2 June 1940.
