Rigmor Demuth Hansen was born in Denmark on 19 November 1917. She went to Korea in March 1951 as a nurse on the Danish Red Cross Hospital Ship Jutlandia, and served on the ship for more than a year as a surgical nurse and later as a senior ward nurse, treating U.N. combat casualties and Korean civilian patients. In April 1952 she entered public health work with the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) and was seconded to the United Nations Civil Assistance Command (later named the Korean Civil Assistance Command) where she was assigned as nursing advisor to the Seoul City Civil Assistance Team until 15 March 1955.

The Danish Korea Medal was issued for service aboard the Hospital Ship
Jutlandia, to both men and women, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who could also recommend foreigners for the award. Approximately 480 medals were awarded. See also Lot 701 for her miniature medals.
