Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal (successful) (Frank Ellwood, 6th Mch. 1916) complete with ribbon buckle, extremely fine £40-50
Royal Humane Society Case No. 42,589: ‘On the 6th March 1916, a soldier accidentally fell into the harbour at Townsville, Queensland. Frank Ellwood, apprentice on the S.S. Calliope, jumped in and supported him until they were got out with a rope.
The previous year he had been awarded an R.H.S. Testimonial on Vellum, again whilst serving aboard the S.S. Calliope. Case No. 41,987: ‘F. Ellwood attempted to rescue C. Gallagher, who was drowned at Iloilo, Phillipine Islands, on the 17th July 1915.’
