Pair: Able Seaman J. Cane, Royal Navy

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (A.B. H.M.S. “Superb”); Khedive’s Star, 1882, unnamed, good very fine and better (2) £200-250

John Cane was born in Southwark on 7 June 1860. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 17 August 1875, being advanced to Boy 1st Class in August 1876. Promoted to Ordinary Seaman in June 1878, he served on Superb, October 1880-March 1883, being promoted to Able Seaman in March 1881. On the Superb he took part in the bombardment of Alexandria 11 July 1882. Attaining the rank of Leading Seaman in March 1886 when on Hector, he completed his naval service in March 1888. With copied service paper and roll extract.
