Provenance: ‘Jubilee’ Collection, Glendining, May 1992.

George Deplidge is first traced on the muster rolls as a Private in the 2nd Battalion 84th Foot, having attested on 4 May 1812, as a volunteer from the Leicester Militia. He served in France from June 1813 to June 1814, and was discharged upon disbandment of the battalion on 19 December 1817. Sold with muster roll details.

At one point Wellington himself commanded the 84th at the battle of Nive on December 11th, later remarking upon their coolness and steadiness.
