Provenance: Seaforth Collection 1870; Eaton (later Lord Cheylesmore) Collection 1880, sold Glendining, July 1930; Spink, July 1988; Glendining, July 2001.

Alexander Fraser was born at Inverness, and enlisted for the 27th Foot at Edinburgh on 22 January 1806, aged 24 years, having two year’s previous service in the Caithness Fencibles, 1800-02. He served as a Drummer throughout his time with the 27th Foot and was in the Peninsula with the 3rd Battalion. He was discharged at Gibraltar on 18 December 1821, in consequence of ‘being infirm’.
