Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Relief of Mafeking, Orange Free State, Transvaal (54923 Gnr. C. Hart, M Bty. R.H.A.) good very fine, rare £400-450

Charles Hart was born in St. Helier, Jersey. A Groom by occupation, he attested for the Royal Regiment of Artillery at Woolwich on 4 August 1885, aged 18 years, 5 months. With the Royal Horse Artillery he served in India, October 1886-November 1892. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in July 1897 but was recalled to the Colours in January 1900. With ‘M’ Battery he then served in South Africa, February 1900-June 1901. Two sections of “M” Battery served with the Flying Column at the Relief of Mafeking.

Being discharged on 1 April 1902, he re-engaged on the following day and served until 3 August 1906.
