John W. H. Wellard enlisted into the Royal West Kent Regiment on 12 February 1901. Served in the latter stages of the Boer War. Still serving at the time of the Great War, he was discharged due to sickness on 31 October 1917 and awarded the Silver War Badge. With copied roll extract.
