Michael Tobin was born in Co. Clare and enlisted in the 82nd Regiment at Hull on 26 November 1855, aged 19 years. Serving with the 82nd Regiment in India, he was slightly wounded in the head at Lucknow on 18 November 1857 (published casualty roll states 16 November). He was discharged having been found unfit for further service on 21 June 1865. With copied discharge papers, roll extracts and other research.
