Frederick Henry Horton was born at Kingston, the son of a musician in the 1st Royal Surrey Militia, and originally enlisted into the 3rd Dragoon Guards in May 1890, having previously been released from the 3rd East Surrey Regiment. Subsequently transferring to the 7th Hussars, he served as Trumpeter with the regiment in the Boer War and was awarded the Queen’s medal with three state and two dated clasps. Horton was awarded the L.S. & G.C. in April 1910 and was eventually discharged as a Bandsman in October of the following year. He died at Norwich in August 1938.
