Alexander Cameron was born in Dalry, Ayrshire and lived and enlisted at Edinburgh. Serving with the 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 23 November 1914. He was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 22 December 1914, aged 48 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. He was the husband of Catherine S. Cameron, of 57 Raeburn Place, Edinburgh.
