With the outbreak of war the 15th Hussars were based at Longmoor. They initially saw service in France as Divisional Cavalry, with ‘A’ Squadron supporting 3rd Division, ‘B’ Squadron supporting 2nd Division, and ‘C’ Squadron supporting 1st Division. The Regimental Headquarters also deployed in support of the three squadrons.

Bandsman Frank Harris, 15th Hussars enlisted on 5 March 1909 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 16 August 1914. The regimental history notes he was wounded in action (date unknown) and was discharged from the 3rd Reserve Cavalry Regiment on 24 August 1918, being awarded a Silver War Badge.
