William Griffith also received the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society’s Medal, in silver, on the same occasion, the Society’s records stating:

‘Vote of Thanks to Captain Thomas B. Pritchard of the ship
Glenesslin, for the skilful manner in which he handled his vessel in the mid-Pacific on 11 February 1900, and 1 March 1900, when on each occasion a man fell overboard and was picked up after being a considerable time in the water; also Silver Medal and Vote of Thanks to William Griffith, the Steward, who took charge of the boat sent to effect both rescues.’
